01 Jul 20: The King Of Sweden Handicap, a wide open contest over 1750 metres on the dirt track, developed into an absolute streetfight on this Wednesday card at Øvrevoll, and it was the toughness of Hampus G that prevailed. Last year's Derby runner-up stayed on gamely by the inside rail to grab the lead 100 metres out, and he won by a neck from Kildare, with Crossroad Blues a close third. Hampus G was well ridden by Manuel Martinez, who partnered three winners on the day. He guided Hampus G sensibly around, giving him a ground saving trip while keeping him interested throughout. Niggled along going down the back stretch, Hampus G raced very much like a horse who would appreciate a longer trip, and this was a really positive result for the son of Mutajally.
The four-year-old filly Betty, making only her second career start, shaped well as she finished fourth to Ruby Tuesday in the first race on the card, a maiden heat over 1100 metres / dirt, while Two Times ran third to Mongolian Navy in a handicap over 2400 metres / dirt. The good stable form continues! GS
